Phase of the complex functional determinant in QCD at small chemical potential

چکیده
We construct an effective action for QCD by expanding the quark determinant in powers of the chemical potential at finite temperature in the case of massless quarks. To cut the infinite series we adopt the Weinberg power counting criterium. We compute the minimal effective action (∼ p), expanding in the external momentum, which implies the use of the Hard Thermal Loop approximation. Our main result is a gauge invariant expression for the phase of the functional determinant in QCD. Implications for lattice simulations are briefly discussed.

We propose a new method to investigate the thermal properties of QCD with a small chemical potential (µ). The derivatives of the phase transition point with respect to µ are computed for 2 flavors of p4-improved staggered fermions. We moreover comment on the complex phase of the fermion determinant in finite-density QCD.

Nuclear matter has finite baryon number density, finite (negative) isospin density and, under certain conditions, finite (negative) strangeness density. Since having a finite chemical potential for baryon number makes the fermion determinant complex and simulations intractable, we restrict ourselves to zero baryon-number chemical potential. QCD at finite chemical potential μI for isospin (I3) a...

We present a method of simulating lattice QCD at nonzero chemical potential in the chiral limit. By adding a weak four-fermi interaction to the standard staggered fermion SU(3) QCD action, we produce an algorithm in which the limit of massless fermions is well-behaved and physical. Using configurations at zero chemical potential, and an exact fugacity expansion of the fermion determinant, we ca...

We study the thermal properties of QCD in the presence of a small quark chemical potential µ. Derivatives of the phase transition point with respect to µ are computed at µ = 0 for 2 and 3 flavors of p-4 improved staggered fermions on a 16 3 ×4 lattice. Moreover we contrast the case of isoscalar and isovector chemical potentials, quantify the effect of µ = 0 on the equation of state, and comment...
